location of favorites

I use a USB hard drive to carry my data between home and work.

Is there any way to tell IE (I use IE6, but this is the highest IE for which
I can find a newsgroup) to save my favorites on that drive instead of in my
profile, so that favorites I add at home are automatically there at work and
vice versa?

If not, is there a more convenient way to keep the two computers' favorites
synchronised?

Thanks,

Bill

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys to point to a shared folder on the server:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

Alan,

That worked great except for one thing. WHen I log off and back on, the
original value is restored. How can I make it permanent for my user account,
while at the same time letting other users' favorite default to their
profiles?

I looked in HKEY_USERS instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER thinking that individual
settings might be available there. But there is no key with my name in it
and not enough keys for the users of the machine.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

I am afraid I am unfamiliar with more than one user on a computer.
I wouldn't expect any information for individual users to be held in
HKEY_USERS as I assume they would only be held in the undividual
User.dat files but perhaps you would be better asking the question in
a group for your operating system.
