internet explorer illegal operation

When I double click on my internet explorer, as soon as
the page opens up, a message pops up that "iexplore has
performed an illegal operaton" I've also been getting
messages like "msbntray has performed an illegal
operation" and other illegal operation warnings. I just
installed a new ethernet card and dsl, and I cant use it
because I dont have a web browser that works! Any help
would be greatly appreciated!

- unplugged adapter
- inserted cd
- removed software
- opend msconfig
- turned off load startup group items
- restarted
- installed software
- inserted adapter when prompted
- error when setup completed "msbn update has an error in
<unknown>"
- closed the error msg and got a new error msg: "msbn util
has cause an error in <unknown>"
- no details button
- closed error message
- has network connection, but no internet connection
- another error :"msbntray has cause an erro in <unknown>"
- opened add/remove programs
- has new.net and napster 2.0 installed
- removed the programs
- no more error msg's
- now has internet connection
- put system back into normal boot
- everything is working fine
